ABOUT THE CLUB

We have a rich history in the city and have been teaching a traditional style of Aikido for over 30 years.

Our club is a non-profit organisation and offers you a welcoming, relaxed and friendly environment to learn and train in. All income generated from our mat fees goes towards the costs of the hall and is used to part-fund courses and seminars.

We are recognised by the British Aikido Board and are affiliated to the National Aikido Federation. The Federation's Hombu dojo is Bristol South Aikido Dojo

About Aikido Cardiff: About
SENSEI BERNARD HARDING (1950 - 2016)

Club Founder (6th Dan)

Sensei Bernard Harding was a highly-skilled martial artist and an experienced practitioner of Kendo, Karate and Aikido. Sensei Bernard studied Aikido for over 40 years. He was a long time friend and student to both Nobuyoshi Tamura Shihan and Pierre Chassang Sensei.

Nobuyoshi Tamura Shihan was the European Representative of the Ueshiba Hombu dojo in Tokyo and as such, the senior Japanese sensei in Europe. He was renowned for the purity and classicism of his technique. Pierre Chassang Sensei worked with Tamura Shihan to standardise a curriculum of techniques in Europe and emphasised the importance of Aikido as a martial way.

Sensei Bernard founded Aikido Gakko Ueshiba in 1981 and had a deep love for Japan

“I have practiced various arts and the path has been a long one, but I have come to the conclusion that Aikido is the complete Budo.”

Sadly, Sensei Bernard passed away in July 2016.  He leaves behind a unique, sharp style of Aikido and a strong legacy of skilled aikidoka across the country.
